Nissan India has taken the Datsun Go hatchback on a roadshow in 3 major Indian cities, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. In the next couple of months, 97 more cities will be covered through the Datsun Go roadshow. During the roadshow, the Datsun Go hatchback will be displayed at prominent locations across 100 Indian cities. At these locations, buyers will have the option of checking out the Go in the flesh and will even be able to sit inside the car to get a feel of it.
Nissan India feels that by giving prospective buyers the chance to touch and feel the car even before its official launch, it can make buyers make up their minds in time for the launch. The launch and price announcement of the Go hatchback will happen in March 2014. The car will be built at the Renault-Nissan factory in Chennai and will roll onto Indian roads from the end of March 2014.
The Datsun Go shares the V platform with the Nissan Micra. This platform sharing also involves the sharing of many parts of the interiors and the drivetrain. The 1.2 liter petrol engine that powers the Micra will also power the Go hatchback. This engine will be paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The engine pumps out about 69 PS-100 Nm and could be peppier on the Datsun Go, which will be lighter than the Micra due to many part deletions.
In fact, Nissan India is targeting a price just under 4 lakh rupees for the top-end Datsun Go. To arrive at this low price tag, Nissan will have to cut costs. The Datsun Go will therefore be a car that involves a lot of cost cutting. In other words, the Datsun Go will be a car that is built to a price, designed to appeal to first time car buyers whose other options are the Maruti Alto and the Hyundai Eon.
