Official: Mercedes Benz to launch G63 AMG off roader on 19th as February turns out to be the month of the SUV

Mercedes Benz India has confirmed that its flagship, high performance SUV offering, the G63 AMG will be launched on the 19th of February 2013. The SUV, which is a facelifted model comes with new external embellishments to spruce up its classic boxy looks. Under the hood, the changes are a lot more pronounced as a new 5.5 Liter Twin Turbo V8 motor finds its way into the SUV with very spirited performance being the result. The 2013 Mercedes Benz G63 AMG will be a direct import from Germany and is expected to be priced over 1.2 Crores, making it the most expensive SUV sold in India by the German luxury car giant.

February 2013 is turning out to be a month of the SUV. Picture this, in four days, we’ll have had four SUV launches, an unprecedented feat in India. We can’t remember any other time in the past when such phenomenon unfolded in India. On the 12th of February, we had Honda launching the CR-V crossover. The CR-V’s launch was followed yesterday by  Audi launching the petrol engined version of the hot selling Q3 crossover. Earlier today, BMW India launched the 2013 X1 facelift, another hotly anticipated luxury crossover.

Tomorrow, Force Motors will launch the redesigned Force Gurkha Off Roader, an SUV that the off roading brigade in India has been waiting for eagerly. Finally, Mercedes Benz India will kickstart their 2013 car launch campaign next week by launching the G63 AMG off roader. So, in a span of a 7 days, no less than 5 SUVs will be launched in India and remember, these launches come at a time when the Indian car market is struggling with a sales slowdown. Some of our sources in the know suggest that Force Motors could pull off a surprise tomorrow by launching two new variants of the Force One SUV.

The variants in question happen to be the Force One equipped with ABS & a 4X4 system, and another cut price variant of this SUV powered by a 2.6 Liter TDI turbo diesel engine. If these speculated launches indeed happen tomorrow, February will certainly be a record setting month for SUV launches in India. Talking of SUV launches, Ford has lined up the EcoSport compact crossover for a launch next month while Renault is prepping up the Duster 4X4. All in all, 2013 promises to be the year of the SUV with more launches like the Mercedes Benz GL-Class SUV lined up in the next few months.
