Team IndianCarsBikes caught a couple of Indian bound Peugeots doing the endurance testing rounds, on the picturesque Mulshi road in Pune. The cars were right hand drive models and are all set to cover every terrain across India, as a part of endurance testing that most automakers put their cars through, to ensure that the cars are well engineered to suit Indian conditions.

The cars we caught were the Peugeot 508 Sedan and the Peugeot 207 Hatchback, both of which will be launched in the Indian market in the next year or two. While we have always known that the Peugeot 508 Sedan will arrive into India, the smaller 207 Hatchback was a pleasant surprise. While two diesel engined models of the 508 Sedan were accompanied by a solitary petrol model, the 207 Hatchback we caught testing was a petrol version.

Coming to cars themselves, the Peugeot 207 Hatchback will take on the likes of the Maruti Swift, the Ford Figo and the Hyundai i20.Internationally, the Peugeot 207 is also available in sedan guise, which perhaps could make it to India at a later date.  On the other hand, the Peugeot 508 Sedan will sit in the E-Segment of the Indian car market rivaling the likes of the Honda Accord, the Volkswagen Passat and the Skoda Superb.

We also managed to snag out the engine details of the Peugeot 508 Sedan. The petrol engine produces around 160 Bhp and the diesel engine produces 140 Bhp is what we could gather from the folks in the non camouflaged test cars. The Peugeot 207 Hatchback could get both petrol and diesel engine options.

Perhaps a 1.4 Liter 90 Bhp petrol engine downsized to 1.2 Liter would be the petrol variant and the 1.4 liter, 70 Bhp four pot common rail diesel engine making for the diesel variant. The figures for the Peugeot 207 are purely speculative at the moment, based on the car’s engine range internationally. So, expect these cars to be showcased at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo, after which an Indian launch will be due.
