Porsche has added a brand new version to its 911 series. Did I say brand new? Well, not actually. Porsche has added a four-wheel drive version to its Carrera GTS model which debuted last September. Both the coupe and cabriolet versions now get Porsche’s four-wheel drive system.

The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS was basically a 408 bhp 911 with a distinct body-kit from the 4WD models. The Carrera 4 GTS has the same 3.8 litre flat-six from the two-wheel drive model. The Porsche now manages to do the sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and with the optional PDK dual-clutch transmission 100 kph comes up even faster. The top speed of the new 4 wheel drive GTS could be around 187 mph according to Autocar.

As part of the new four wheel drive system the 911 Carrera 4 GTS gets a limited-slip differential and Porsche’s Traction Management system as standard. Now, to complement the machinery underneath, the Carrera 4 GTS has been garnished with a re-designed front bumper and side-skirts. The new model gets 19 inch RS Spyder wheels with centre locking nut. Apart from this, a lip spoiler has been added to the front bumper and is finished in contrasting black.

Porsche had revealed the GT3 RS4.0 a few days back. This was thought to be the last 911 model from the current 997 range. But, with the announcement of the Carrera 4 GTS, it seems that Porsche still has a few cards left to play until the new 991 takes over.

The GT3 RS 4.0 will be showcased at this years Frankfurt auto show. Unlike any other 911, the GT3 RS 4.0 has a 4.0 litre flat-six engine and is hailed as the most powerful 911 of all time but will be produced in limited numbers. Meanwhile, the Carrera 4 GTS will be available from July. The four wheel drive version will cost £5000 more than the standard 2WD model. The coupe will have a price tag of £83,145 while the cabriolet will cost £90,024.
