Porsche to take on Evoque with Cajun crossover

Our friends at Autocar have got hold of the very first leaked renders of the Porsche Cajun. The car in the image is a three door version which suggests that Porsche might have the Range Rover Evoque in its cross hairs when it is finally launched in couple of years. Now being a Porsche, styling will be heavily influenced by the 911 sports car and looking at the pictures it is evident. The renderings are a part of an in-house  styling exercise undertaken at Porsche.

The three-door crossover takes cues from different Porsche products from the company’s current portfolio as well as from the past. The tail lights resemble that on the 918 Spyder super car. While there will also be a five-door version of the Cajun, the three-door will rival the Range Rover Evoque. The Cajun will be based on the Audi Q5 and most of the interior bits on the Cajun will also be shared with the Audi Q5.

Same is the story with the engines. The engines will be sourced from Audi with final tuning done by the Porsche engineers to infuse some Porsche pedigree in the mix. The Cajun will be offered with a range of four as well as six cylinder engines including a diesel option. Now, the Range Rover Evoque could be offered in India as well. With Land Rover’s India plant coming online prices too are set to drop as some of the cars will be brought to India via the CKD route.

Porsche also has its presence in India and we could see the Cajun made available in India as well. But the SUV won’t be here any time soon. It is believed that the Cajun will be ready in the next two years after which plans could be hatched for an India launch. Until then, the Range Rover Evoque might already be available in India. Audi has the Q5 in India and since the Cajun shares much of the parts with the Audi Q5 we might just see a CKD Cajun coming our way.
