Porsche Macan is what the Cajun Crossover SUV will be called; To be positioned under the Cayenne!
Porsche has just released the name of its sub-Cayenne SUV and like with the Cayenne, Porsche has chosen a name that can be pronounced easily all around the world. Porsche has christened its latest SUV, the Macan, which is supposed to mean tiger in Indonesian. The Macan will be what the “Cajun” SUV will be called from now on. The Porsche Macan Crossover SUV will sit underneath the Cayenne in terms of pricing and positioning and is expected to be a big volume puller for the Porsche brand, which whose acquisition by the German Volkswagen group will be completed this year.
Porsche has jut released a sketch of the Macan SUV and from what we can see, the Macan will retain the traditional Porsche bug eyed look up front while sharing a similar profile with the Cayenne. The production of the Macan Crossover will begin in 2013 before which you can expect plenty of spy shots to emerge. Also, the Macan Crossover will share its platform with the Audi Q5, and the upcoming Audi Q4 Crossover. Like the Q4, expect the Macan to measure in at under 4.5 meters in total length. The Macan Crossover will be pitted at the likes of the Range Rover Evoque and the under-development BMW X4.
While the Porsche Macan will debut well before the Audi Q4, expect the Crossover to fish for engines and transmissions from the Volkswagen parts bin. Turbo petrol engined and turbo diesel engine options are likely for the Porsche Macan. Like its elder sibling, the Cayenne SUV, the Macan Crossover is what Porsche hopes will bring in the big volumes, especially in case of emerging countries like India and China, where high end luxury SUVs rule the roost, outselling sportcars quite significantly. Meanwhile, here’s a teaser video of the 2014 Porsche Macan Crossover that the German sportscar and SUV maker has just released.
