Recall Reprise: General Motors to recall 1.5 Million vehicles

While Toyota was feeling the recall heat earlier this year, the recall effect seems to have finally rubbed off on General Motors, which so far was pretty low key about recalls. General Motors has just announced a recall of massive proportions, which will involve no less than 1.5 million GM vehicles including cars, SUVs and pick up trucks. The reason for this massive recall is a faulty windshield wiper washer fluid heating unit that could lead to a windshield wiper fluid catching fire. The recall aims to fix this, not by replacing the faulty uni by another but by completely doing away with the windshield wiper fluid heater.
This, as the vendor supplying these units has folded up leaving GM high and dry. Car owners obviously won’t like this and to sweeten the sour deal, GM will pay each recalled car owner a sum of $100 as compensation for the inconvenience caused. The vehicles affected by this recall are the 2007-2009 model year Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup truck, Avalanche, Suburban and Tahoe; Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV and Escalade EXT; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL; the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse; 2008-2009 Buick Enclave and Cadillac CTS; 2006-2009 Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, Hummer H2 and the Saturn Outlook.
