Here are spyshots of the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster being spotted side-by-side in India, in what are perhaps the first such spyshots to emerge onto the interweb. Both the EcoSport and the Ecosport are compact SUVs aimed at folks wanting the compactness of a hatchback/small sedan and the high ground clearance of an SUV. While the Duster has weaned away C-segment sedan buyers in India, the EcoSport could do the same to the B+ segment hatchback buyers considering the competitive pricing it is rumored to arrive with.
Coming back to the spyshots, the angles of these images mean that not much can be made out about the street presence of these SUVs in comparison with each other. Nevertheless, the Duster looks bigger than the EcoSport, which it actually is considering its longer length of about 4.2 meters when compared to the EcoSport that measures under 4 meters without taking the EcoSport spare wheel into consideration. On how spacious the EcoSport is when compared to the Duster is something we can only judge once the former is launched in India.
From the images, we can only hope that Ford India will price the EcoSport significantly lower than the Duster as the car buyer in India usually expected to pay a lower price for a car that looks smaller than its direct competition. Dimensions apart, both the EcoSport and the Duster will feature petrol and diesel engine options. On the petrol engine front, the EcoSport has the Duster well covered with the tech loaded and perky 1 liter EcoBoost turbo petrol motor outputting 120 Bhp-170 Nm. On the other hand, the 1.5 Liter HR15DE naturally aspirated petrol engine on the Duster is a staid performer at best with 99 Bhp-134 Nm.
While the lion’s share of the Renault Duster’s sales come from the diesel powered variants, this equation could be more balanced when it comes to the EcoSport as the EcoBoost turbo petrol engine promises to usher in the turbo petrol revolution in the India. The EcoSport will share its interiors with the new Fiesta sedan. This means that we’ll get a contemporary looking dashboard with a top model getting the Ford SYNC infotainment system. And that explains why Renault India launched the Media NAV system for the Duster a couple of weeks ago.
