Mini SUV/Crossovers are going to be the rage in the coming days and Renault India which has some big plans for the Indian market seems to be firming up plans to launch the Dacia Duster in India sometime in the future. While Renault couldn’t make much headway after the heady initial success of the Mahindra-Renault Logan, the Dacia Duster could just be the volumes player Renault India can bank on as plenty of car makers seem to betting big on the Mini SUV/Crossover segment.
The Dacia Duster seems to be an ideal player for this segment as it is based on the cost effective Renault Logan platform and can thus share many of the Logan’s underpinnings that includes the highly efficient 1.5 liter DCi diesel engine of the Logan. Also, the Dacia Duster is a new model worldwide and this could also make it a fresh candidate for India when Renault India launches it in a year or so.
At 6-7 Lakhs and the ability to seat 5 adults comfortably across varied terrain, The Dacia Duster looks like the perfect first foray for Renault India. Better still, if Renault India can chop the 4.31 meter long Dacia Duster to under 4.2 meters, a-la-Xylo Mini MPV, we could even have a INR 5 Lakh Dacia Duster. All said, only the future will unveil Renault’s India plans. Till then, we hope that Renault India gets its network of dealerships and service centers up to scratch.
