Rendered: 2013 Ford Figo Small Car Facelift

Test mules of the Ford Figo hatchback have been doing the rounds in and around the Ford plant in Chennai. Now, the Figo isn’t an old car by any means, given that it was launched in India just two summers ago, in 2010. However, the hatchback is the American car brand’s best seller in India and due to this very factor, Ford seems to be in a hurry to keep the Figo fresh and current even as the competition(read new  MarutiSwift and Hyundai i20) are hot off the oven. The facelift that the Figo will get will be a mid career makeover with mainly the cosmetic bits getting a makeover.

Inspired by the various test mules of the Figo facelift, our roving eye in the sky, EarthFusion, got to work and put together a rendering on how the facelifted hatchback could look like. On the front end, the headlights could be redesigned with the indicators being repositioned to the bottom rather than on the top. The front bumper too could get a design change to make the front end more aggressive. On the rear, the tail lamps could see a minor design change. These differences apart, the Ford Figo will be quite similar t the current model with the overall shape of the hatchback remaining the same.

The Ford Figo is essentially a previous generation Fiesta hatchback, rebadged and restyled for the Indian car market. So, there are many features that the Figo could do with like a start-stop button and keyless entry, features that the competition now offers. So, Ford could add these features in the upcoming facelift to make the Figo a feature packed car. Already, the Figo is quite loaded when it comes to the features it offers for a value-for-money price tag. The addition of these extra features will only make a loaded car even more desirable.

Late last year, Ford added a few features to the top end model of the Figo in the form of alloy wheels, glove-box based USB connectivity for the stereo and a adjustable-for-height tilt steering. So, Ford India has been updating the Figo continuously and the latest facelift will only add to the numerous changes. The sweet handling Figo hatchback is available with both a petrol as well as a diesel engine. The 1.2 Liter, 70 Bhp petrol engine is a staid performer while the 1.4 Liter TDCI turbodiesel engine is the pick of the lot due to its responsive performance.
