School buses are a major mode of transport. Although a fairly vast market, no brand has really targeted it with a school focused vehicle. In India transporting your child is done in vans, rickshaws and buses. Although our regulations at least legislate a certain amount of safety, school buses are not the safest mode of transport per say. 50 kids in a metal box with no seat-belts or air-bags. Never thought of it in that way did you?
Mahindra is entering an untapped market
Mahindra has taken one step forward in this market. Mahindra introduced the SafeEye tech in the Maxximo Mini Van VX school bus. The highlights of this new feature include:
Integrates GPS based messaging service and real-time tracking of children which is accessible to parents / school administrators on their android phone or PC.
SafeEye will provide the following safety notification services to stakeholders while the school bus is in transit:-
-Location & speed tracking on GPS map and through SMS alert
-Emergency notification in case of accidents, deviations from pre-set route or non-scheduled stops, etc.
-CCTV / Still Camera – tamper proof camera equipment stores video footage up to 48 hours
-Webcam / Live Feed – additional option of live feed through 3G network to keep track of school van in transit
The Maxximo Mini Van is the first car to offer such a feature in India
Mahindra says the Maxximo Mini Van VX School Bus provides safety measures in compliance with all the regulatory requirements on school bus safety.
The Maxximo’s competitors don’t offer anything similar, so it can maintain a certain monopoly
Speaking at the launch, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. said, “School Bus Safety has been a major cause for concern within Indian society and numerous public debates have ignited over the last few years on the ways to resolve this critical issue.” He went on to add “As a socially responsible organization, we at Mahindra try to be responsive to such issues and thus, the launch of this innovative solution. I am sure that the SafeEye digital solution is a step forward in ensuring the safety of our children while commuting to and from school.”
