Recently, we brought you a story in which we told you that the Skoda CitiGo hatchback might not come to India anytime too soon with Skoda India not even having any plans to showcase this hatchback at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. In line with this report of ours, we have information emerging about the CitiGo’s launch scheduled for the year 2014.

Typical of Skoda, the CitiGo hatchback is expected to be positioned under the Volkswagen Up! at an expected price of around INR 3.5 Lakhs.For long, Skoda India has been talking about a sub-Fabia hatchback and the CitiGo is expected to be that car. At that price, the Skoda CitiGo will be a car to watch out for as it will mark Skoda’s entry into the ultra competitive Indian A+ small car segment, a segment which it currently has no presence in, barring the likes of the Skoda Fabia, in the B+ hatchback segment. The Volkswagen Up! has been receiving rave reviews for its build and big car like feel and the Skoda CitiGo is expected to be no different as it is essentially a rebadged Up!.

Apart from the underpinnings, the Skoda CitiGo will share the 1 liter, three cylinder engine with the Volkswagen Up! This engine which is available in two states of tune, 59 Bhp and 74 Bhp, has been designed to be highly fuel efficient and low emitting. This apart, the CitiGo, like the Volkswagen Up!, is predominantly designed to be a city car and will debut in the European market come 2012. In India, the anticipated price of INR 3.5 Lakhs, means that it will take on the likes of the Maruti A-Star and the WagonR.
