Skoda India lines up the attractive 8,999 Rupee EMI scheme on the Rapid sedan [Edit Inside]

For a well priced car that’s built well and has a wide choice of variants, the Skoda Rapid has not been selling as well as the Czech car maker would want it to. So, Skoda India has now come up the INR 8,999 EMI offer on the Rapid. Through this scheme, Skoda India plans to lure prospective C-Segment buyers into signing on the dotted lines and driving off in the Rapid, which incidentally happens to be the best selling car in the car maker’s Indian range. In the past, Skoda has offered a INR 9,999 EMI offer on the base variant of the petrol engined Rapid. [Edit 1: Notably, this EMI scheme is valid only on the 2012 model year of the Skoda Rapid sedan.]

By cutting the EMI by INR 1,000, the Rapid 8,999 offer looks more attractive than ever. However, one must note that the 8,999 EMI offer is on the Rapid Active MPI variant, which is the base petrol variant of the car. For higher variants, the EMI amount naturally goes up. [Edit 2: Skoda India has clarified that the EMI scheme of INR 8,999 is applicable across the 2012 Rapid variant line up. While the EMI remains the same, the down payment varies for higher models.]  The INR 8,999 EMI offer on the Rapid involves a loan tenure of 48 months. Customers opting for this offer will need to make a down payment of about INR 1.7 lakhs on the base version of the Rapid Petrol. The latest Rapid 8,999 EMI scheme is being offered by Skoda Finance, the Czech car maker’s car finance division.

The Skoda Rapid is sold in India with a choice of two engine options: a 1.6 liter-4 cylinder MPI petrol engine outputting 105 Bhp-153 Nm and a 1.6 Liter-4 cylinder TDI turbo diesel engine good for 105 Bhp-250 Nm. The big volumes for Skoda come from the diesel variant of the car. Both the engines are sold with a 5 speed manual gearbox as standard. However, the petrol engine also gets the option of a 6 speed automatic transmission. The top end variants of the Rapid get twin airbags, ABS and EBD as standard.

In the coming months, Skoda India could launch a CNG-petrol powered dual fuel version of the Rapid even as Volkswagen India is lining up the Vento CNG in India. The Rapid is a badge engineered version of the Vento and is built at Volkswagen India’s Chakan factory, off Pune. The Rapid is priced lower than comparable variants of the Vento and represents better value for the car buyer. Many Skoda India dealers across the country are doling out discounts of about INR 75,000 on the 2012 Rapid. So, if you’re in the market for the Rapid, you should push hard for discounts when you’re settling for last year’s models. Additionally, 2013 variants of the Rapid is available with free first year insurance across most Skoda dealers. So there, that’s a heads up for you, our esteemed reader.
