Skoda Laura RS Delayed till 2011; Facelifted Fabia in October 2010
Skoda Laura RS
The first car to give Indians a taste of pure Turbo petrol power was the 150 BHP Skoda Octavia RS which was and is one terrific drivers car. Now, the already Skoda Laura, which has the terrific 163 Bhp 1.8TSI petrol engine was to get even quicker with the mouth watering 200 Bhp RS engine.
After being showcased at the 2010 Indian Auto Expo, the Laura RS got a lot of intrepid petrolheads salivating at the prospect of another brilliant turbo petrol from Skoda. Things, as they stand today present another delay in the Laura RS’ launch as reported by CarWale. The Skoda Laura RS will not come anytime before March 2011 and this seems pretty logical as the Laura 1.8 TSI in itself is no slouch of a car and Skoda India would definitely want to give the relatively new Laura 1.8 TSI a decent run at the hustings before an engine upgrade or a facelift.

2010 Skoda Fabia
Apart from this bit of buzz, the Skoda Fabia, which is desperately in need of a face lift to lift flagging sales will also see the facelifted model in October, this year. We hope that Skoda India brings in better petrol and diesel engines as the facelifted Skoda Fabia isn’t too much of a departure from the current model in terms of how it looks and rides. So, a better CRDI diesel is definitely what the market will demand and deserve as the older 3 pot diesel mill was an ugly racket, yes racket on the road.
If Skoda India does get benevolent and brings in the 1.2 TSI petrol, Indian hot hatch enthusiasts are in for a real treat. But that, doesn’t seem to be too likely given the tepid response to the petrol Skoda Fabia so far. In the least, better(read peppier) petrol and diesel engines are a must if the Skoda Fabia hopes to mount any kind of counter attack to the already strong competition.
