Skoda Octavia replacement based on Volkswagen Vento?
2011 Skoda Octavia
Skoda is Volkswagen’s subsidiary and the whole world knows that. What most folks don’t know is that the Skoda Laura and Superb share plenty of components with Volkswagen cars ranging from DSG gearboxes to Volkswagen TSI engines. After the tank like Skoda Octavia was finally discontinued in India, it left Skoda India with a gaping hole in it’s product portfolio.
While the buzz on the street is that Skoda will soon launch a sedan based on it’s Fabia hatchback, here is another dimension to this story that has developed very recently. According to our friends at BSM, the Skoda Octavia replacement will share plenty of commonalities with the Volkswagen Vento right from the engine and transmission. What perplexes us is the news of the Skoda Octavia replacement sporting a price tag of INR 8-9 Lakh. If this does happen, we could have a Skoda car competing directly with the Volkwagen Vento.
Now, that is really something as two Volkswagen group companies fighting for market share seems very unlikely, especially in the volumes segment. All said, stranger things have happened in the world of cars and Skoda India could once again unleash the value pricing it has been known for so far and take on VW. The wait begins.
