The Skoda Rapid a.k.a the Skoda Fabia Sedan which has been making waves all day today was caught somewhere near the Skoda factory at Aurangabad by the folks at VelocitiMag. The car which is heavily disguised looks pretty similar in profile to the erstwhile Skoda Octavia.

That is pretty understandable given that that Skoda India would be hoping to make good the Octavia’s absence with the Rapid Sedan. That said, the Rapid Sedan shares it’s platform with the Volkswagen Vento’s VW251 platform and thus, it would be pretty safe to expect solid build quality and sure footed handling.

Let’s hope Skoda engineers plenty of feel into the steering that could make the Rapid a budget driver’s car especially considering the high torque 1.6 Liter TDI diesel engine. This car will not compete with the Vento directly but rather would be positioned at least INR 50 thousand lesser. So, a price of around INR 6.5 Lakhs could be a ball park figure for the base petrol of the Rapid Sedan.

One big difference is the fact that the Rapid won’t be a notchback like the Octavia but rather will be a regular Sedan like the Vento due to the platform change. The festive season of Diwali is when Skoda could launch the Rapid Sedan and until then keep an eye out on this space as we bring you plenty of buzz about this brand new car for the Indian c-segment sedan market.
