Speculation: The Tata Nano Diesel could have a different exhaust layout!

We’ve been hearing mumlings about the Tata Nano Diesel already doing the testing rounds in and around Pune, although with no proof to show just as yet. Tata Nano continues to test, what appears to be the petrol Nano day in day out with no visible change to show for, even as ICB’s roving eye in the sky EarthFusion, relentlessly scans streets for the Nano Diesel. While the Nano Diesel is still a year away from being launched, we have an interesting bit of news emerging from deep within Tata Motors. EarthFusion reports that the Tata Nano Diesel could have a different exhaust layout.

The Nano Diesel’s exhaust could be positioned differently, towards the sides of the Nano rather than the rear, as is the case with the current Tata Nano. This new exhaust design is said to dissipate heat better than the current design and along with the new exhaust design, the Nano Diesel could also see a new rear bumper design. At the moment, we don’t have images to show for as the test mules of the Nano Diesel with the differently positioned exhaust are yet to commence outdoor testing, outside the Tata factory. Any which ways, the new exhaust design is an aspect we’ll keep a close eye on, in the coming days.

The Nano Diesel be launched sometime in 2013, with the small car featuring a two cylinder diesel engine. The diesel engine is essentially a downsized, chopped down version of the Tata Indica’s 1.4 liter, four cylinder diesel unit. The diesel engine of the Nano is expected to be a turbocharged 700cc unit, with a common rail direct injection system for fuel delivery. This engine could also be shared with the Tata Ace DICOR, images of which we brought to you a few weeks ago, in yet another ICB Exlusive. The engine isĀ  said to be capable of delivering up to 40 Kmpl, making it one of the most fuel efficient engines in the world.
