Spied: Mahindra Renault Logan Compact Sedan

Mahindra Renault Logan CS

Even as speculations are rife about Renault India not dumping it’s alliance partner Mahindra & Mahindra and not going it alone at least as far as the Logan is concerned, the Logan is all set to go under the scissors to come out shorter and cheaper.

Like Tata did with the Tata Indigo CS, the spacious Renault Logan finds it’s cavernous boot chopped off for it to comply with the 4 meter cutoff mark for excise duty cuts. The folks at BS Motoring have even managed to snap up a pic of the Renault Logan Compact Sedan doing the rounds somewhere in and around Mumbai.

The Renault Logan Compact Sedan will get about INR 30-50,000 cheaper and may feature a new petrol engine from the soon-to-be-launched Nissan Micra. The existing diesel engine powering the Logan however could be carried forward if it meets the Bharat stage 4 emission norms that will come into effect this April. We doubt this as the current diesel engine is pretty old and might not make the cut once the new emission norms come into place.

Meanwhile, the once high Logan sales have been declining rapidly and Renault seems to be pinning it’s hopes on the Logan Compact Sedan. Whether the market will accept the Logan CS simply for it’s cheaper price is something doubtful as the competition looks a lot fresher and offers plenty of features too.

In our opinion, Renault needs to do a lot more than just chopping the boot off and making the Logan cheaper than it’s rivals. A much better looking and a feature packed Logan might just be spark to reignite Logan sales. Renault India, are you listening?
