The Toyota Innova will finally have some competition from the venerable Tata Motors.
Ratan Tata has just pulled the wraps off Tata Motors’ homegrown premium MPV called the Aria, at the 2010 Auto Expo. Now, we do know that Tata is facing a formidable task of taking on market leader Toyota in this segment. So, that makes it all the more important for them to pack in a whole load of features at a killer pricing level that they are famous for.

Tata Aria
This time around with the Aria, Tata Motors might just have the entire jigsaw puzzle falling into place. The Aria’s styling, while not look cutting edge manages to toe a safe line by being appealing to a wide range of audiences. Gone is the smiling grille that has become synonymous with Tata’s cars starting with the Indica.

Tata Aria Dashboard
On first glance, the huge, beefy looking Aria dwarfs everything this side of the Toyota Fortuner, leave alone the Toyota Innova. Huge seventeen inch wheels with disc brakes all around give the Aria this imposing stance. Like the massive exterior, the Aria’s interiors will have acres and acres of space which has become a feature of most of Tata Motors’ products. That apart, the cavernous interiors are very decently appointed and feature rich.

Tata Aria Interiors
A small summary of the features include air conditioning vents for all the three rows, foldable food trays, roof mounted gloe boxes and beige interiors. The engine is the same 2.2 liter DICOR diesel unit that powers the Tata Safari and this should certainly endow the Aria with sprightly acceleration and decent cruising speeds. An all wheel drive option, ABS, all of six airbags for safety, traction control and a bevy of other little thoughtful features which abound the Aria might just push the price of the Aria northward.
We expect the Tata Aria to be priced in between the Toyota Innova and the Fortuner at about INR 12 Lakhs. This pricing backed up with good quality will make sure that both the Toyota siblings, the Fortuner and Innova feel the heat. We say, bring it on Tata.

CAN TATA PRODUCE A RELIABLE VEHICLE EVER ?
UTTER NEGLIGENCE AND LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL HAS MADE SUCH A GIANT MOTOR COMPANY TO STAY WITHIN ITS small LIMITS IN INDIA. ALMOST 95% OF THEIR PRODUCTS ARE PRODUCED WITHOUT STRICT QUALITY CONTROL. FOR YEARS THEY ENJOYED FOR BEING THE SINGLE PLAYER IN HEAVY VEHICLE MARKET AND NEGLECTED THE NEED TO MAINTAIN QUALITY. OFTEN THE SOLOGAN AND SENTIMENT OF BE-INDIAN-BUY-INDIAN WORKS ON THEIR FAVOUR. NOW BEGAN FACING REAL COMPETITIONS. THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH SAFARI ETC. SHOWS THAT THEY CANNOT BUILD A VALUE FOR MONEY VEHICLE EVER. THIS IS their ANOTHER DREAM THAT WOULD HARDLY COME TRUE, IF THAT ATTITUDE OF JUST-MANUFACTURE-AND DUMPING-ANY-CRAP- ON-INDIAN-CUSTOMER NEVER CHANGES, THEY WILL EVER SHRINK.
JUST AN EXAMPLE FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE- WITHIN INDIA WHERE IRON AND RELATED PRODUCTS ARE CHEAP- TATA NEVER USE QUALITY STEEL/IRON PARTS FOR THEIR CARS. CAN ANY ONE SHOW ONE TATA PRODUCT THAT HAS A GOOD INTERIOR. SHAKES AND RATTLES WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR.
SUCH A COMPANY WITH SUCH RESORCES CAN BE THE BEST CAR PRODUCER IN THE WORLD. BUT THEY ARE USED TO A HABIT OF NEGLIGENCE.
LET US WAIT AND SEE THIS PRODUCT too.
ple update knowldege me
:-)) :-*
Tata, The side view of the vehicle is really great! But I was totally disappointed looking at the design of front grill, dashboard, inner side of doors and view from the back side… very very poor!!! Please fire everyone from the design team and pump in fresh blood.
What is there to be proud about sticking on to a sick looking front grill in all the cars you manufacture… Safari’s grill is great… please at least have something like that for Aria.
The seat’s doesn’t look great as well…
Please think about ten years down the line – how would a designer model such a vehicle and bring it to the roads now… there are no ‘real’ benefits of sticking on to so called sick ‘simple’ design and coming up with a product like this.
Still I love Safari… That has been my dream vehicle for last ten years… Who designed that vehicle… where is he/his skills?
Disappointed chap… :-(
tata makes big leap forwad as it improves its engines and interiors they have used good materials unlike the safari.
Espero verlo en España muy pronto . Tambien otros modelos de TATA que no se venden en España.
