Tata Dolphin: Tata Motors’ latest salvo in the small car segment
Tata Nano: Used for illustrative purposes
Around thirty thousand Tata Nanos are plying the Indian streets with many times that number waiting to join them shortly. Indian auto maker, Tata Motors Limited, is said to be already developing another car that will sit right between the Tata Nano and the Tata Indica/Vista and challenge segment leader, the Maruti Alto.
Code named the Dolphin, this car, which is based on a completely new platform, is touted to come with both petrol and diesel engine options that will displace about 800-1000cc. The Dolphin car is expected to be out in 2012.
In true Tata tradition, the car will be roomier than the Tata Nano and of course the Alto and knowing Tata, we’re certainly not doubting that. The price is expected to be a little over the Tata Nano at INR 2-2.5 Lakhs. The car is expected to cost lesser than the Alto while offering the space and performance of larger small cars like the Maruti Wagon R and the Hyundai Santro Xing.
Apart from this, not much is known currently about the Tata Dolphin. Keep an eye out on this one as we go about snooping around for more stuff on this next-big-thing from the Tata stables.
