The most powerful hatchback in Tata Motors portfolio, the Indica Vista D90, will be launched on the 28th of January 2013. The car has already reached many Tata Motors dealerships across the country with dealers already accepting bookings for the car. Deliveries have been delayed to coincide with the official launch of the car. The 2013 Tata Indica Vista D90, as its name suggests, will get a 90 Bhp engine that will be diesel powered. Given that it’s a diesel engine we’re talking about, the peak torque figure of 200 Nm is the real deal.
2013 Tata Indica Vista D90 Diesel Hatchback
The engine on the 2013 Tata Indica Vista D90 is the 1.3 Liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel motor that is now equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger to boost power and torque. Notably, this very engine does duty in the diesel variant of the Indigo Manza sedan. On the Vista D90, the VGT equipped diesel engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox as standard. The Vista D90 will be available in two variants, VX and ZX, and will sit at the top of the variant line up in terms of price and positioning. While the VX variant of the Vista D90 is priced at INR 5.74 lakhs, the ZX variant costs INR 6.4 lakhs, both prices reflecting ex-showroom Delhi figures.
At these prices, the Vista D90 undercuts the competition by a good margin, especially for the power and torque on tap, which is higher than every other car in the B+ segment hatchback space barring the likes of the Fiat Punto 90HP Hyundai i20. However, both the Punto 90HP and the i20 cost significantly more than the Indica Vista D90, underscoring the latter’s value-for-money proposition. Apart from the more powerful diesel engine, the Vista D90 comes with a bunch of new features, that makes it one loaded B+ segment hatchback.
The car borrows the dashboard from the Manza sedan, which means that the instrumentation console moves in front of the driver rather than being positioned unconventionally(And inconveniently?) in the middle of the dashboard as is the case with the other Vista variants. Follow-me-home headlamps, a new contrast paint job for the body and the roof, one touch driver side power window and a new driver information system on the instrumentation console are the new features that the Vista D90 sports.
