Tata to sell the Nano to employees in Tata group firms!

While the Tata Nano’s sales are nothing to write home about, Tata is planning to look inward instead of outward, targeting the large number of employees in Tata group companies as prospective buyers of the Nano. As we have cited earlier, the Tata Nano achieved it’s peak volumes of close to 10,000 units in March, this year when Tata aggressively marketed the car to Tata Motors employees through a special loan scheme that came with relaxed repayment and flexible tenures.

Tata Motors also targeted Tata’s IT division, Tata Consultancy Services, through a special edition of the Nano exclusively for TCS employees. The special edition Nano, which came with a cash discount of INR 25,000 on the top end LX model also featured Tata Motors Chairman, Mr Ratan Tata’s autograph emblazoned on the dashboard of the car to make for a personalized touch. Now, Tata Motors plans to take this strategy a step further to involve more Tata group employees.

Notably, Tata Motors employees do get special discounts and lower interest loan schemes through Tata Motor Finance from time to time on various Tata and FIAT car models. Also, Tata Motors has this particular policy of encouraging employees who live more than 10 Kilometers away from the Tata Motors plant and who don’t use the Tata bus service for commuting to office, to commute only by Tata cars. Meanwhile, here’s official word emerging from Tata Motors Limited whose spokesperson has had this to say about hardselling the Nano to employees of the Tata group.

From time to time, on all our products, we work with sister companies in the group to create exciting offers for colleagues and their families, just like we do for our own colleagues. As for the Tata Nano specifically, as for any prospective customer, it is equally an aspirational car for colleagues across the group. In the Tata Group, companies offer colleagues in other companies special offers on their products. As for the special offer on Tata Nano for TCS colleagues, the response incidentally has been overwhelming.

Hopefully they will be again able to touch 10,000 mark with this on going offers.
