Rumor: Toyota to debut new dashboard colors and improved interiors for the Etios and Liva?
The rumor of Toyota working on improving the interiors of the Etios and the Liva first began days before the 2012 Auto Expo. The Auto Expo came and went but Toyota Kirloskar Motors seems to be taking customer feedback very seriously, for the Etios and Liva seem to have now gotten themselves new dashboard colors and improved interiors. The image of the new interiors also seems to have appeared on the Toyota Etios website although the angle muddles things a bit. The garish looking red, which Toyota in the run up to the Etios’s launch said is inspired by the vermilion red that Indians are fond of, has finally been given the go by to settle for a more pleasant-on-the-eyes grey shade on most of the VX variants.
Grey replaces red in all areas for the VX variant which previously used to be screaming for attention and that’s definitely a good thing. That said, folks who still want vermilion red dominating the interiors needn’t fret. Toyota will match the vermilion red interiors with the red and black exterior colors. Effectively, if you want the red interior trimmings, you need to buy a Etios VX in red or black colors. The color of the plastics on the dashboard too has seen a visible change.
The colors now are much darker, and from the images we’re able to see on the Etios website make the interiors look much better than the washed out grey appearance that was the norm before. We’re wondering if the plastic quality has gone up a few notches too but that is something we can tell only after looking at new cars in the flesh. Also, there is talk of the NVH levels, another major grouse in the Etios and Liva, being worked upon. All said, the Etios and the Liva’s interiors look much fresher with this latest upgrade, which has been a quick and a silent one. The EtiosĀ and Liva with the new interiors should be available with Toyota dealers soon, that is if they aren’t available already.
This move from Toyota comes at a time when the brand has faced plenty of flak for the lower perceived quality level on the Etios and the Liva, both cars strictly built-t0-a-price. Also, with the new 2012 Maruti Dzire Compact Sedan weeks away from a launch, Toyota’s latest salvo to keep the Etios current might just work after all, for the new Dzire makes severe compromises with a tiny 316 liter boot. So, folks wanting a car with a bigger boot could gravitate towards the Etios or the Manza as the full sized Dzire sedan will now be available only in the lowest LXi/LDi spec. We’ll finish with the classic line, God….Bless….Competition!

This will complete the deal for Etios!
Both Etios and Liva are sub standard products from Toyota stable. One can’t disagree that these products have done more damage than good to the brand ‘Toyota’. Low quality measures adopted shows clearly to achieve a particular price point. These cars in no way align with the usual ‘bullet proof’ quality Japanese brand are known for. So no amount of ‘refreshing’ the interiors is gonna change this. Bad product(s) Period
