Toyota Fortuner watch out, Hyundai Santa Fe SUV launching in India on 6th February

Hyundai India has announced the launch date of the 2014 Santa Fe SUV as the 6th of February, 2014. The SUV will be launched on the second media day of the 2014 Indian Auto Expo at Greater Noida’s India Expo Centre. The new SUV is the 3rd generation model of the Santa Fe globally and the second model of the SUV sold here in India. Hyundai first launched the Santa Fe in India during 2010. However, the SUV hasn’t been able to match the segment leader, the Toyota Fortuner, in terms of sales. The new 2014 Santa Fe will be aimed at correcting this.

What to expect from the 2014 Santa Fe?

The new Storm Edge design philosophy makes it appearance on the 2014 Santa Fe. This design philosophy is different from the Fluidic design in that it is more sharp lines than curves, suitable for SUVs.

The 2014 Sante Fe is longer and wider than the outgoing model while also being shorter. The different dimensions make the SUV look more planted while the 2.7 meter wheelbase remains unchanged.

Interiors of the 2014 Santa Fe are all new and so are the rash of new features offered on this luxury SUV.

The Sante Fe is powered by a 2.2 liter turbo diesel engine that outputs 197 Bhp-422 Nm. The engine gets a 6 speed manual and automatic gearbox options. Both 2WD and 4WD variants of the Sante Fe will be sold in India.

Expect the Sante Fe’s prices to start at 22 lakh rupees as Hyundai is likely to CKD assemble the SUV here in India.

Whom will the 2014 Santa Fe compete with?

The 2014 Sante Fe’s main competitor will be the best selling luxury SUV in the Indian car market, the formidable Toyota Fortuner. In terms of specifications and features on offer, the Sante Fe will have the Fortuner covered. But, Hyundai’s above 20 lakh rupees have traditionally never sold well in India. The new Santa Fe will have a tough task to break this mold.
