Toyota Motor company has been in the firing line with it having to recall millions of it’s cars for potentially fatal issues ranging from sticky gas pedals to braking niggles. Now, Toyota’s Japanese counterpart, Honda too has issued a mass recall. Honda Motor Company recalled no less than 437,000 cars worldwide for an issue related to the airbags.

If you’re wondering what the hullabaloo is all about, let’s make it easy for you. In modern cars, the event of an accident results in the air bag getting inflated. Now, the air bag is inflated by a propellant that releases a gas. This gas flows through holes in a metal cover. In some cases, the propellant is too strong causing the cover to break. This force can make the whole air bag burst due to which dangerous metal pieces may come from the broken cover.

This isn’t too dissimilar to shrapnel from a bomb blast. Now, we needn’t really mention the potential damage flying pieces of high speed metal can cause. This already has caused a death and 11 other dangerous incidents.

Though Honda has been quick to announce a recall before much more damage is done, the news is heightening concerns over the Japanese cars’ safety levels and the once famed bombproof reliability. Meanwhile, this recall includes cars like the 2001 and 2002 Accords, the Civic, Odyssey, CR-V and Pilot models and the 2002 Acura TL and CL models.
