Just days ago, Toyota recalled thousands of cars for the sudden, unexpected acceleration problem due to the gas pedal getting stuck under the floor mat. This caused it’s cars to accelerate even when the driver didn’t intend to and caused a few fatal crashes. Toyota soon swung into damage control mode by issuing a mass recall.
Now, French auto major Peugeot-Citroen is following suit and has just announced a recall of 97,000 cars in Europe. The recall involves 10% of Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 models in circulation in Europe.

The recalled cars too face the same issue of unintended accelerators causing loss of control and accidents. This isn’t too surprising considering the fact that many auto manufacturers share common suppliers and in many cases common parts too. While Toyota blamed faulty floor mats for the sudden acceleration issue, it also recalled a fewer number of cars with sticking accelerator issue.
Peugeot hasn’t yet issued a statement mentioning the exact reason for the recall. Incidentally, the cars under the scanner were manufactured in the Czech Republic, in a manufacturing unit that produces both Toyota and Peugeot-Citroen cars.
