As petrol prices rise higher with each passing year, fuel efficient cars by manufacturers, especially of the petrol kind, with variable valve technology and lean burn engines have become the mainstay for many car makers who still swear by their rev happy petrol motors for the maximum-fun-and-driving-pleasure per kilometer quotient.

The all new 2011 Ford Fiesta Sedan will come with a 1.6 Liter Ti-VCT duratec engine that will deliver 118 Bhp, one of the higher power outputs in the segments. While it is true that the petrol motor will feature variable valve technology to maximize both performance and mileage, fuel economy will still be a concern for those who drive longer distances.

Oh yes, the 1.6, 90 Bhp Duratorq Diesel engine is a definitely the frugal option that buyers could opt for it they need a frugal mile muncher. But, petrol heads will never be able to rev the Fiesta Diesel like the petrol for extracting performance and driving a great handling petrol car the way it is meant to be driven as fuel economy bills at the end of the month would simply be a grim reminder of all the pleasures that was had behind the wheel of a petrol Fiesta.

So, when Ford announced yesterday that the new 1 Liter EcoBoost engine would be benchmarked with the 1.6 Liter Ti-VCT petrol engine, we were immediately very interested. In the future, wouldn’t it be a great move from Ford India to bring the 1 liter EcoBoost engine to India, in the Foed Fiesta’s engine bay. If that happens. petrolheads could have the best of both worlds.

A torquey petrol car that gives a distinct torque kick when the turbo kicks in and direct injection technology that means that the 1 liter three potter will be miserly enough while sipping fuel. All this remains pure speculation for now but we wouldn’t be too surprised to see this happening sometime in the future as Ford has declared that 90% of it’s range will use EcoBoost engines by 2013-14.
