The upcoming new Ford Fiesta Automatic sedan to get the twin clutch gearbox?

As we reported earlier, Ford India will launch an automatic version of the new Ford Fiesta later this month. Two questions however remain. Will Ford India launch the automatic gearbox on both the petrol and diesel Fiesta sedan variants? Will Ford bring in the 6 speed Powershift twin clutch automatic gearbox or stick to the more conventional 5 speed automatic gearbox in the new Fiesta automatic? While the first question still remains unanswered, there are some indications that Ford India could launch the new Fiesta Automatic with the twin clutch Powershift gearbox to India.
If this indeed happens, the new Ford Fiesta Automatic could be the first car in its class to sport the dual clutch gearbox, which hitherto has been available only in cars like the Volkswagen Jetta and the Skoda Laura, which sit a segment higher. Ford India has repeatedly been driving home the point that it has been offering segment leading features in the new Fiesta like cruise control, a voice command car entertainment interface and the pull-drift adjusting electric power steering. Ford Powershift 6 Speed Automatic Gearbox
The price of the new Fiesta Automatic though could be quite steep if Ford does indeed choose to give Indian c-segment car buyers a taste of razor quick gear shifts and superb response on an automatic car through the six speed Powershift twin clutch gearbox. Fuel efficiency also will be higher than conventional gearboxes on the twin clutch gearbox, justifying the cutting edge technology and the higher costs involved. All said, the Powershift gearbox has received its share of flak on the new Fiesta even as users have complained about gear selection issues which Ford claims to have resolved by issuing the appropriate fixes.
So, the all new Ford Fiesta Sedan might set the bar even higher in terms of class leading features if Ford India chooses to give the Fiesta the dual clutch gearbox. We for our part hope that the twin clutch gearbox is offered both on the petrol as well as the diesel variants of the all new Fiesta sedan. The official launch of the Fiesta Automatic could happen in the next couple of weeks or even as early as November 7th, when Ford might begin displaying the Fiesta Automatic at its dealerships, followed by a national launch a week later.
