The video lined up for you after the jump is perhaps the most conclusive evidence of the EcoSport crossover’s diesel variant actually being tested in India. The video, at 1:43 clearly shows the TDCI badging on the EcoSport’s tail gate, the clearest ever screen grab that we’ve managed to get of the EcoSport Diesel. The absence of Titanium badging means that the car caught on video is not a top end diesel variant. While this is not the first instance of the EcoSport Diesel being spotted in India. is certainly is the clearest one at least for now. Don’t take our word. Check the video out for yourself.
The EcoSport will be launched in petrol and diesel variants in India, one of the first few markets in the world to get both the fuel options on the crossover. For instance, the 0nly country in which the Ford EcoSport is available with a diesel engine is Argentina. The EcoSport Diesel will be powered by a 1.5 Liter TDCI turbo diesel engine outputting a peak power of 90 Bhp and a peak torque of 205 Nm. These figures are identical to those outputted by the diesel powered new Fiesta sedan, another Ford car that’s sold in India and that uses the same engine.
You just don’t miss this gorgeous gallery we’ve lined up for you, our esteemed reader, showcasing the Ford crossover in a spectacular range of 8 colours.
Apart from India and Argentina, the diesel powered EcoSport is expected to see wide sales in Europe, which like India loves its diesel powered cars. South Africa and Australia are two other models that could see the EcoSport being launched in diesel guise. Most other car markets including the ones in South East Asia are expected to make do with petrol powered models of the hot new crossover from Ford. On the India-spec EcoSport, the 1.5 Liter turbo diesel engine will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and will come with front wheel drive as standard.
Just as we’ve clearly emphasized through our exclusive story we carried last week, Ford India will first launch the EcoBoost equipped EcoSport. The diesel powered model will follow a month later. Even as you’re reading this, Ford India is dispatching the display model of the EcoSport to its showrooms across the country. The petrol engined EcoSport will be launched sometime in the middle of March 2013 with deliveries beginning in the end of April. The sub 4 meter crossover will be capable of seating five adults in a 2+3 arrangement.
