[Video] Watch the Tata Indica Vista D90 cock a snook at the Maruti Suzuki Swift
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is the largest selling B+ segment hatchback in India. Naturally, competitors benchmark themselves with the Swift in terms of sales and many other aspects. One such car maker is Tata Motors. Right from the outset, Tata has benchmarked the Vista against the Swift and the marketing material promoting the Vista signifies just that. From newspaper ads proclaiming the Vista’s various advantages when compared to the Swift, Tata Motors even has a website to drive home their point of the Vista being clearly ahead of the Swift. Now, this competitive rivalry has moved a step ahead. Hit the jump to watch for yourself.
Truth be told, the Vista D90 offers much more kit than the Swift Diesel. A more powerful turbo diesel engine, more spacious interiors, a bunch of creature comforts like automatic climate control, a touch screen infotainment system with satellite navigation and driver information system, and a price tag lower than that of the Swift is what the Vista D90 brings to the table. However, the Swift holds the upper hand when it comes to dynamics as the Vista D90, for all the power it puts out, isn’t as much fun to drive as the Swift, which makes up for the lower power and torque output with sporty handling characteristics. Meanwhile, here’s the new TVC for the Tata Indica Vista D90.
Despite having so many clear advantages, the Vista range hasn’t been able to hold a candle to the Swift in terms of monthly sales and here’s why. Maruti Suzuki’s brand is much stronger than Tata’s when it comes to the small car segment. The sheer trust level that Indian car buyers have in Maruti is something that no other car brand has been able to match so far. It is this trust in Brand Maruti that makes buyers gravitate towards cars built by Maruti Suzuki and the Swift is no exception.
Also, Maruti Suzuki makes highly reliable cars, which are class leaders in terms of this very important criterion. Maruti Suzuki’s after sales service and network is the best in India, another reason for buyers to choose Maruti Suzuki cars over that of other car brands. So, it remains to be seen whether the Tata Indica Vista D90 actually manages to wean away buyers from the Maruti Swift’s fold.

One must not forget two thing, the first is, what you have already mentioned, Swift is a fun car to drive, none of the Tata cars which I have driven is easy to drive.
The second most important point, the after sales service, once you give a car in Tata service station, your wallet becomes very, very light.
I am not telling that all the Suzuki after sales servies are cheap, if you do your homework you will be able to find a good service station who is quite cheap, and will be able to give you a good cheap service, which is not the case with Tata. '
