Mahindra is one automaker that regularly releases uncut versions of its TVCs on the interweb, well in advance of the TV debut. This phenomenon has unfolded yet again, what with Mahindra releasing the uncut version of the Scorpio SUV’s latest TV commercial. The last such move from Mahindra involved the uncut version of the XUV500’s TVC. Moves like these are aimed at building buzz around the TVC on the interweb, much before the advertisement’s actual premiere. Hit the jump to watch the Scorpio’s latest TVC, in all its uncut glory.

Usually new Ads for an already existing car or two wheeler in India is meant to reignite the interest around the product or highlight a new feature or offer that might have been introduced in the product. In case of the Scorpio’s latest ad, the takeaway is the mention of the Scorpio being available with an automatic gearbox. For a while now, Mahindra had stopped producing the automatic gearbox equipped Scorpio due to difficulties in sourcing the 6 speed automatic gearbox. Now though, the sourcing issues seem to have been sorted out. So, the Scorpio’s automatic variant might be on the verge of being relaunched.
This perhaps is the reason for Mahindra explicitly mentioning that the Scorpio is available with 4 wheel drive and an automatic option. As the four wheel drive option has been available on the Scorpio throughout this SUVs lifecycle, the big change signified by the new TVC seems to be that of the automatic gearbox equipped top end variant of the Scorpio making a comeback. Sales of the Scorpio have come under pressure as the competition for this SUV has gone up by quite a bit over the last year or so.
The Renault Duster is now a viable option for many SUV buyers in India while the top end version of the Scorpio is facing pressure from the base variant of the XUV500. Also, the Scorpio now has to contend with the Tata Safari Storme. So, the reintroduction of the automatic variant on the Scorpio could give the SUV breathing space as there isn’t a single entry level SUV in India that comes with an automatic gearbox. The Mahindra Scorpio is a seven seat SUV that comes with three turbo diesel engine options: a 2.5 Liter m2DiCR motor good for 75 Bhp-200 Nm, a 2.6 liter mCRDE engine that outputs 115 Bhp-283 Nm and a 2.2 Liter mHawk motor good for 120 Bhp-290 Nm.
