Vision 2020: BMW brand Mini to add three more models to its line up before this decade folds over!

BMW brand Mini will continue the model expansion blitzkrieg well until 2020, by when the legendary brand sold in 100 countries across the world will add three more models to its burgeoning model line up. The new models could share BMW’s next generation front wheel drive architecture, a platform with which BMW aims to keep the legacy of driver and driving pleasure oriented cars alive while also saving on weight, keeping costs in check and improving fuel economy. The new generation of Minis with BMW’s front wheel drive architecture will debut in 2014.

Currently Mini has a range of 7 cars in its line up, of which four cars will be sold in the Indian market a few months down the line. BMW is appointing three dealerships in Delhi and Mumbai to begin with and will slowly increase the count to include other big Indian cities as well based on demand. Three of BMW’s existing dealers have been handed over the responsibility of selling Mini cars in India. Delhi will be handled by Deutsche Motoren and Bird Automotive while Mumbai will be handled by Infinity Cars. All the four Minis being brought into India will be through the completely built unit(CBU) route.

The Mini Cooper will arrive with a 1.6 Liter, 122 Bhp petrol motor and is priced at INR 24.99 lakhs. The Cooper S on the other hand will have bring turbocharging to the table with the 1.6 liter turbo petrol engine good for 184 Bhp. The Cooper S will be priced at INR 27.99 lakhs. The drop top version, the Mini Convertible will feature the same engine spec as that of the Cooper and will be priced at INR 29.99 lakhs. All three cars will seat two and come with two doors. The most practical of the Mini, if you ever call it that will be the Countryman, which has four doors and capacity for four.

The Countryman will use the Cooper S’s turbo petrol engine and is priced at INR 31.99 lakhs. All Mini cars for India will feature a six speed automatic gearbox and all prices, ex-showroom Delhi.
