2012 Volkswagen Beetle

Later today, Volkswagen will unveil the all new 2012 Beetle globally and this car will be available for sale in India too, just after it’s global launch. After months of speculative renders and spy pics, we finally have a few real images of the 2012 Beetle that our friends at MotorTrend are carrying and we like what we’re seeing.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is longer, wider and shorter. So, yo get a squat stance that is a lot more sportier than the cuddly older model and along with the sporty stance the 2012 Beetle will also get a range of engines from the frugal to the sporty. The car also looks a lot different from the older model while retaining the instant recognizability by remaining true to traditional Beetle genes.

The 2012 Beetle comes with HID headlamps which also feature LED running lights that makes the front end look contemporary even as the wider track retains all the cutesy curves of the Beetle, albeit with some sporty intent. Engine options on the 2012 Beetle will include a range of two petrol and one diesel engine.

Volkswagen will use the 2 liter, 140 Bhp TDI common rail Turbo Diesel engine for the frugal minded while the older 2.5 Liter, five pot Petrol will continue powering the 2012 Beetle ahead but with a higher power-torque rating of 170 Bhp and . However, the big change in the performance department is Volkswagen’s 2 liter turbo petrol engine that will churn out 200 Bhp and 280 Nm.

Lifted off from the Volkswagen Scirocco, this engine is expected to give the 2012 Beetle both blistering performance as well as decent fuel economy. Transmission options will be a 6 speed manual and 6 speed DSG automatic gearbox, with volkswagen’s XDS differential. So time then, to wait and watch as Volkswagen will unveil the Beetle to a global audience a few hours from now.
