Volkswagen Up! hatchback spotted in India!
Private import or a test car is the first thought that comes to our minds when we look at the Volkswagen Up! hatchback, which somehow has landed upon a flatbed pick up in India. Perhaps, it could be a model being imported into India by some manufacturer for strip down to see what the car is all about or even could be a car that Volkswagen is bringing into the country for showcasing at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. Whatever may be the case, the Volkswagen Up! being spotted in Mumbai, India does raise many questions.
This particular example of Volkswagen’s smallest and latest car in its line up, the Up!, was snapped up by NDTV Car&Bike reader Sandeep Singh. From the images, it is evident that the Up! caught on camera is a three door version. India might get a five door version of the Up!, when Volkswagen does launch this car for the Indian market sometime in 2013. The Volkswagen Up! is currently available with a three pot, 1 Liter petrol powered engine with Volkswagen also readying up an electric version of this car, which is targeted mainly to be a city car.
The 1 liter petrol engine is available in two states of tune, 59 Bhp and 74 Bhp. While a diesel engine isn’t in the picture yet, it should be a reality soon considering the fact that Volkswagen plans to sell the Up! in most European markets it operates in. Volkswagen group carmakers, Skoda and SEAT too will come up with their own cars based on the Up! called the CitiGO and the Mii respectively. Expect the Volkswagen Up! to be showcased at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo, which could be a prime reason for this un-camouflaged car being spotted in Mumbai, India.
