While the Polo hatchback comes with a INR 55,000 discount on specific variants, the Vento gets up to INR 70,000 off on select variants. Both petrol and diesel engined models of the Polo and the Vento are eligibile for this discount offer, which ends on the 25th of September, 2012.

Recently, Volkswagen India facelifted the Polo and the Vento’s top end Highline variants, to make these cars more attractive during the Indian festive season, which usually sees car sales at their yearly highs. The Highline variants of the Polo hatchback and the Vento sedan, in the latest facelift, get cosmetic changes along with additional features. To sweeten the deal, Volkswagen did not price the facelifted model with the extra features higher than before. Rather, the German automaker cut prices to make these cars more attractive buys.

Both the Polo and the Vento are available with naturally aspirated petrol and turbo diesel engines. The Polo gets a 1.2 Liter, 3 cylinder petrol engine and a 1.2 Liter, 3 cylinder TDI turbo diesel engine. The Vento sedan gets a 1.6 Liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine and a 1.6 Liter TDI turbo diesel engine. While the Polo’s petrol and diesel engines are mated to a five speed manual transmission, the Vento sedan’s petrol variant gets a five speed manual and a 6 speed automatic gearbox, and the diesel Vento makes do with the 5 speed manual gearbox.

Both the Polo and the Vento are known for their solid build quality, high quality interiors and good ride and handling. While the Polo commands a premium price in its segment, the Vento is very competitively priced. This also explains why the Vento has been a relatively better seller than the Polo, in its segment. However, the latest price cuts and low interest finance offers for both the Polo and the Vento should do their bit to spur sales of both these cars. These offers come at a time when car sales are subdued to the gloomy economic conditions in India, a reflection of the mood globally. In the coming weeks, Volkswagen will launch the 2012 Touareg SUV in India.
