Volkswagen Polo: The car without the wait

Here’s a problem most sales folks dream of having and production managers absolutely despise. Of that of a huge demand causing the car maker to struggle with production deadlines leading to huge waiting lists. Over the past couple of months, we’ve been receiving plenty of comments from folks who’ve already booked their Volkswagen Polos and who are now quite fed up of waiting to drive home their Polos.

Finally Volkswagen India seems to have woken up given the fact that Polo buyers are threatening to cancel their bookings and settle for cars from other marques with shorter waiting periods. Volkswagen India director Neeraj Garg, conveyed this to us during the Vento launch in Delhi, yesterday.

By the end of this year, Volkswagen India will effectively triple production of the Volkswagen Polo to about 400 units per day which they hope will help satiate the ever growing demand for their small car. To achieve this and then some more, Volkswagen plans to 400 more employees to it’s existing workforce of 1,800 people at it’s Chakan plant to make sure that the current backlog of over 10,000 Polos is cleared at the earliest. While Volkswagen India seems to be trying to cope up with the huge demand for the Polo Hatchback, what remains to be seen is whether car buyers would be willing to wait till the year turns over after which they can buy a Polo minus the wait.
