Volvo Concept You is Sweden’s take on the next big saloon car

Volvo has unveiled a concept that peeps right into the Swedish car makers future. Volvo surely have evolved from brown, boring sedans into cars that tickle you in all the right places. The new Volvo Concept You shows the direction in which Volvo design is headed. Volvo made an announcement regarding the drivetrains of future Volvos just ahead of the Frankfurt Motor show. The company is dumping its five and six cylinder engines for more frugal four pot ones.

The Concept You does have longer proportions which could allow the car to be fitted with a bigger engine. But, Volvo has revealed that all future cars will be based on a basic scaleable architecture which will form the basis of cars ranging from small hatchbacks to bigger saloons.

“Concept You gives a good indication of what you can expect from our nextlarge sedan. The blend of contemporary Scandinavian design, exquisite craftsmanship and intuitive technology will appeal to luxury car buyers all over the world,” Said Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation.

“The next large sedan,” -the next generation S80 perhaps. The Concept You follow Volvo’s design philosophy with an imposing front end and bold haunches. The concept has blunt lines and the surface changes are subtle. The slender headlights up front have LEDs and so do the rear lights. The pulled back roof line blends into the rear in classic sportback style. Although, the concept is less bolder than the latest cars from Volvo like the S60, it has a more refined feel to it.

It is more Rolls Royce than Mercedes-Benz S-Class, you know what I mean? So could this be the next big, luxury sedan from Scandinavia? Well, we could see future Volvo cars being influenced by the new concept and we won’t mind that.
