Volvo S80 D5
It is a known fact that Indians just love their big cars with diesel power and Swedish car major Volvo is playing that very card. Volvo India launched the Volvo S80 D5 Diesel executive saloon yesterday.
The S80 long known for it’s impeccable safety standards and great engineering and reliability equaling if not bettering the German cars goes on sale in India for a extremely competitive INR 37 Lakhs, Ex-showroom New Delhi. This ultra competitive price is set to be the biggest crowd puller for the S80.

The S80 will take on cars like the BMW 5 Series, the Audi A6 and the Mercedes Benz E Class. Going by the hallowed competition it will face, what does the Volvo S80 D5 bring to the table? The diesel car is powered with a high-performance, twin-turbo diesel engine displacing 2.4 liters and capable of 205 hp with 420 Nm of torque.
This engine comes with a diesel particulate filter which means that it will work with the lower grades of diesel available in the Indian non metros. The S80 also delivers a very economical ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 13 Km/liter of diesel.

Class leading interior space and nifty features like Intelligent Driver Information System, Adaptive Brake Lights, Ready Alert Brakes (which reduce braking distance during an emergency), Dynamic Stability Traction Control, Whiplash Protection System and Side Impact Protection System make the S80 terrific value for money.
The only chink in the S80s impressive armor seems to be the limited reach of Volvo’s dealer and service network. If Volvo sorts that out, they might have a terrific seller in the S80. We at ICB recommend customers to try out the Volvo S80 D5 before sampling the other German offerings in the crowded luxury car market.
