Soft Roading: Volvo XC60 Crossover all set for an Indian launch

Traditionally, SUVs have been great mudpluggers, dune bashers and stream forders. But how many of it’s buyers really put their SUVs through the paces? The answer is almost a dismal number of them.

Taking cue, car makers started ringing in the soft roaders, which offered car buyers the high-and-mighty stance and indestructibility of the SUV’s along with a certain degree of nimbleness that sedans and coupe offered.

This combination of comfort, safety and sporty handling really got things going at the hustings and hence we have a whole new segment of SUVs called the soft roaders or crossovers.

The latest entrant to Indian soft roader market is the Volvo XC60. Volvo India has almost finished the homologation process for this crossover and is all set to launch the XC60 shortly. The XC60 will get a 2.4 litre turbocharged diesel engine that will produce about 205 Bhp of shove and 420Nm of twist, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Typically Volvo, safety gets a high priority and in that vein, the Volvo XC60 will be packed to the gills with a host of active and passive safety features.

Volvo India is expected to price the XC60 very competitively in the range of INR 25-30 Lakhs. If Volvo can shore up it’s weak dealership penetration and after sales service, it definitely has a great opportunity for the XC60 to become one of it’s best sellers.
