Since acquiring a 19.9% stake in Suzuki late last year, there has been a constant knowledge exchange between VW and Suzuki. The latest spawn of this marriage is baptized as the VW Rocktan, a car based on the Suzuki SX-4.
The Rocktan will join the current brigade of cross-over city SUVs and will bridge the divide between the CrossPolo and the Tiguan in VW’s range and itself serving as a replacement for the CrossGolf.
Looking at the competition, it will go up against the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Nissan Juke. Powering the Rocktan will be a 1.4-litre TSI engine for the petrolheads and a 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI engine for diesel buffs.
The Rocktan is expected to be around Rs. 12,00,000 but may turn out to be lesser if built in India. With the Joke,err..Juke planning an India launch, the Rocktan may see an Indian launch sooner than expected.
