Team ICB was the first one to report in April that WagonR is to get a facelift in the line of StingRay. Soon after that internet got blessed by many spy photos of WagonR StingRay confirming the news. Since April 2013 StingRay is the only car in discussion from Maruti over and over and finally the launch is expected to happen as soon as next week, August 21st.
This is premium version of WagonR and will sell along with LXi, VXi and ZXi variant of car as an optional pack. The optional pack will include styling upgrades to front end as projector headlamps, new grille and rear chrome strip boasting ‘STINGRAY’. On the feature side, driver and co-driver airbags with steering mounted audio controls and electrically adjustable rear view mirrors are added in optional package. StingRay will also come with full black dashboard and chrome plated door opening levers.
Major change on StingRay is that it features flat bonnet over current WagonR. This whole optional package is to cost Rs. 40,000- Rs.50,000 more than the top end variant of WagonR. WagonR StingRay is expected to price between Rs. 4.4 to Rs. 4.9 lakh.
In terms of powertrain, StingRay is expected to carry same 1 liter 67 bhp K10 motor from the current WagonR. This engine is mated to 5 speed manual gearbox. WagonR StingRay will not be offered in CNG variant and will have class leading features like reverse parking sensors. Fancy features like projector headlamp and Japanese style will differentiate StingRay from WaongR in looks. Maruti Suzuki WagonR StingRay will be aimed at giving the bread box like WagonR more pizzaz to appeal to younger car buyers. The WagonR’s biggest selling points are its tall boy design and reliability. The tall boy design of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR makes ingress an egress a breezy affair, thus making the WagonR a preferred ride of seniors.
