Have you watched the 2012 Skoda Rapid Sedan’s TV commercial yet?
Skoda India has just put together a TV commercial for their first C-segment sedan for the Indian market, the Skoda Rapid. The TV commercial is quite a colorful one celebrating life and the spirit of an Indian wedding, with the Rapid in the thick of things. The Skoda Rapid was launched in late 2012, and since then has been a top seller for Skoda India, with the sedan even besting the Fabia hatchback in terms of monthly sales. Meanwhile, you’ll want to take a look at the just launched Skoda Rapid sedan TVC video we’ve lined up for you just after the jump.
The Skoda Rapid sedan is available in both petrol and diesel engine guise. Essentially a rebadged Volkswagen Vento, built at Volkswagen’s Chakan plant off Pune, the Rapid uses the same engines as that of the Vento. The petrol engine of the Rapid is a 1.6 Liter unit good for 105 Bhp-153 Nm while the diesel engine of the Rapid is a 1.6 liter unit producing a peak power of 105 Bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. While both the petrol and diesel engines get a five speed manual transmission as standard, the Rapid can also be specified with a six speed automatic gearbox.
The Rapid also scores above the Vento in outright all-out handling as the Rapid comes with a stiffer set up. The Skoda Rapid undercuts the car it is based on, the Vento, by quite a bit and this perhaps has eaten into the Vento’s sales as the car has shown a dip in sales ever since the Rapid was launched. We did see this coming a few months ago, and at least from the last three months’ sales figures, this seems to be the trend. Any which ways, the Rapid sedan does offer a lot more choice than the Vento with 8 variants when compared to 5 on the Vento, and this perhaps is just one reason why the car’s sales are growing while the Rapid’s sales are falling.
