A full 8 months ago, Team ICB carried a story about Tata Motors working on the next generation Winger passenger van. Back then, we told you that the latest gen Renault Traffic is what the next generation Tata Winger would be based upon. Today, we have with us a bunch of spyshots showing the Renault Winger running on temporary plates and spotted at a Tata Motors dealership at Pune. Our roving eye in the sky, EarthFusion, who brought us the first whiff of the next generation Tata Winger under development at Tata Motors says that this MPV is straight from the factory.
The spyshots show the current-gen Renault Traffic MPV being tested by Tata Motors in India, ahead of its launch that’s expected to happen sometime later this year or early 2014. Expect the next generation Winger to feature a turbo diesel engine as standard although we aren’t yet sure of which engine Tata will use from its line up of turbo diesel motors. That said, a strong possibility for the next gen Winger is the 2.2 Liter DICOR turbo diesel engine that Tata Motors uses in a range of its utility vehicles. This engine, in detuned guise could be used on the next generation Winger.
While we’ll try to dig more information about the next gen Tata Winger now that Tata Motors has officially begun testing this van on Indian roads, the next gen Winger will add a dash of style through a major stylistic change. To suit the changing times, the interiors of the next-gen Tata Winger are also expected to get a once over to look more contemporary. Like the current-gen Tata Winger, the next-gen model is expected to retain the seating capacity of 9 to 14 adults depending on the variant. The next gen Winger is expected to be put into a myriad range of uses.
Expect a range of variants, from school bus versions to ferry children in urban India to a panel van variant aimed at moving goods. The next gen Winger could be a priced a little higher than the current generation model. Currently, the Winger is available with two turbo diesel engine options, a 2 Liter non turbo engine with direct injection and a 2 Liter turbocharged-intercooled motor. While the lower spec diesel motor is used for the BS3 model of the Winger, the 2 Liter TCIC motor is used on BS4 versions.
