2010 F10 BMW-525d-Front

2010 F10 BMW-525d-Front

If you’re in India, are nudging forty and are doing reasonably well for yourself with money flowing in thick and fast, you’d certainly want the world to know that you’ve arrived. A dinky(read Japanese) set of wheels don’t exactly qualify as the perfect statement of your arrival at the country club each Saturday, so what do you do? A new executive express is the answer you’re looking for and to grab your attention, two mighty German car makers, BMW and Mercedes Benz are fighting tooth and nail. BMWs have always been drivers cars, cars that folks who love to drive buy, rather than those who prefer reveling in the comfort of the backseat. While this is something BMW has prided itself upon, the number of 40 somethings who want something to go pedal to metal make up pretty minuscule numbers. BMW knows just this and hence, time to say hello to the latest Beemer in town, the 2010 F10 BMW 5 Series Sedan. Read more

New Apache RTR 180 2010

She was feeling good, right between my knees, she was hot I knew that, and was getting hotter by the second, the curves they were awesome better than the best I’d ever seen, there was no better feeling in this world, I knew. She was responding to each and every whim of mine, she fancied throwing some of her tantrums from time to time, but I just say what the heck, then I braked hard and my heart almost exploded from the sheer braking accuracy and the stability, ladies and gentlemen I give to you:

2010 New WagonR Road Test Review: New heights of boredom

New Wagon R 2011 1024x768 2010 New WagonR Road Test Review: New heights of boredom

I have a list of stuff that bores me to death and as I get wiser, so does the list. Let me help my cause with an example. During fifth grade, the list prominently read homework. In tenth however, it was my girlfriend. See what I mean?

Fast forwarding to now, test cricket bores me to death. It’s a bunch of guys holed up in a dressing room for five days forced to play a vapid game made worse by the fact that, more often than not, it’s going to draw. What good is a draw? How do we know which team is better? I want to know, clearly, which team got its arse kicked. I don’t want statistics, I want results. I don’t want a draw, I want glorious in a defeat or a rub-your-nose-in-it victory cry.

Ford Figo Car Review: How cool Is It ?

Ford Figo Car Review India

Celebrities. The other evening, I was shuffling across the pages of a lifestyle magazine. As I was flipping through the leaves, a pretty face made me go back a couple of pages. She looked familiar, like a celebrity we know.

Curiously, I read between the lines to have my first ‘whoa!’ moment of the year. No it wasn’t a ‘he turned her’, it WAS, in fact, the celebrity! She was a young lady, in her mid-late twenties (not so sure now) and quite fit, but she had gone under the knife to carve up the face in the picture. Read more

Volkswagen Polo Review: Das Best

VW Polo Hatchback Red Car India

VW Polo Hatchback Red Car

The automotive industry was bleeding oil the past year and a half. With job cuts and huge losses, the scene was grim and unfortunate. Since then, the rise out of the doldrums has been steadfast and surefooted. The current economic climate is slowly gaining its lost sunshine. With economies gaining pace, the auto sector is steering through potholes of problems thanks to the suspension system called stimulus.

As if a way to commemorate the power of resilience over recession, the designers at Volkswagen designed the Polo. While this may not be the idea behind the design, the car exudes an aura of solidity and resurgence, much like its older sibling, the Golf.

Bajaj Pulsar 135LS Test Ride: Reader Review

Bajaj Pulsar 135LS Test Drive Review

Bajaj Pulsar 135LS Test Drive Review

Why has the Bajaj Pulsar 135LS raced to 50,000 units in less than three months of it’s launch?

Here’s why. While Bajaj Pulsars are oh-so-common on Indian Roads, Indian motorcycle buyers are not yet tired of another Pulsar. This, because the underlying theme of the new Pulsar 135LS has been one of suave style with terrific performance to boot. By packaging a range of nifty features from the high end Pulsar 220, into the Pulsar 135 LS (Light Sports), Bajaj Auto has managed to produce a motorcycle that is already setting sales charts afire. Honda CB Twister 110cc Road Test: Reader Review

Wonder what CB means? A book named “Everything you need to know about Honda Motorcycles”. Soichiro Honda, used the American alphabet to name his prototypes and I believe the type “C” ended up being the first production model. As he expanded his product offerings, a second letter was designed to sub-type the bike. So, our Honda CB Twister got that “CB” through this nomenclature.

Honda CB Twister Heart:

Honda CB Twister offers the best power rating in the 110cc segment. This 109 cc engine with a peak power of 8.4bhp@7500 rpm is more than what the TVS Star City’s(109.2cc) 8.1bhp@7500 rpm and Yamaha Crux/Alba’s(105.6cc) 7bhp@7500rpm. Peak power at high rpm means you need to rev the engine to higher rpm for better power (preferably in highways) but stick to lower rpm for better mileage (usually while you drive in city traffic.)

Chevrolet Cruze Test Drive Review India: Should you choose to Cruze ?

Did you know, the oldest automotive oxymoron was ‘a quick diesel’. The oil-burners of yore left us battered, bloody eared and being the butt of all jokes. Cheap diesel transport always came at an expense of sluggish performance, maintenance costs and ridiculous levels of under-refinement. That was then. The diesels have come a long way since Rudolf’s cognition. Fast forward to recent times and we see diesels take centre stage at Le Mans (with Audi) and at Bonneville (with JCB).

But unfortunately, the story is quite dismal when it comes to everyday cars. Now I wouldn’t know what was the name of the first diesel powered production car, partly because of ignorance but mostly because I couldn’t be bothered. To me, diesels belonged to tractors and off road livery. But Bavarian diesel powerplants set the ball rolling for good diesel powered saloon cars.

In India though, the sedan sector remains largely prejudiced to petrol, and fairly so. You get more bang (literally) for your buck. So you would imagine, launching a saloon with only a diesel version would be like visiting the bogs knowing you are out of bog roll. Chevy has taken the road less travelled and, I’m happy to say, that they have come out trumps.

Chevrolet Cruze Car India Front Photo

Chevrolet Cruze Car Front

At first glance, the Chevrolet Cruze from General Motors India sports an aggressive stance. It’s distinctly handsome face is demarcated by a very yankee-ish muscular jawline. The chunky lines and solid feel extends on the sides as well. The grill though is an eye sore and seems like a mouse’s nose. But all in all, the Cruze is a fresh design that hasn’t gone wrong. This is a fresh face. If you had a look at the range Chevy sports in India, you would find spinach more interesting. The Cruze then, is like a sip of beer on a mid-summer afternoon. Read more

Chevrolet Beat Car: Test Drive Review 2010

Growing up, I loved the whole gully cricket funda and everything associated – the makeshift wickets, rules and everything. Except for one. The rotund kitty-partying auntie’s irritating little Pomeranian dog. I am sure many of us will associate this buzzkill with their childhood.

The dog everyone hated, not because it looked remotely scary but with its irritating bark and hyperactive antics, it always shredded the ball to bits.

Chevrolet Beat Car Road Test Review 2010

These unpleasant memories reduxed when I saw the newest Chevy off the block, the Beat. It looks exactly like the hyperactive canine. I hated it in a heartbeat.

The ads suggest it’s christened on ‘heartbeat’ but frankly, if my heartbeat was automotive-ly pictured to be the Beat, I’d rather it stopped beating, now! Some say it’s contemporary; I say it’s a shoddy proof of rampant recessionism.

Chevrolet Beat Blue Color Car Rear Windows New Design Photo

Chevrolet Beat Car Rear Windows Door Handles

The rear door handles are located on the wings and is an interesting design change. But sadly, this gives the door a very refrigerator-ish appeal. The front headlamps stretch all the way to the windshield, small wonder, the price of parts? The rear lamps look like cheap after-market fitments. The butch razor styling doesn’t float my boat.
