Buoyed by the terrific response its first mini pick up truck, the Dost has got, Ashok Leyland-Nissan will come up with new variants of the Dost in the coming months. While the CNG version of the Dost could be launched in the next couple of months, the Dost will also jump on to the passenger van brigade by October 2013. The Dost in passenger carrier guise will be a mini van with a seating capacity for 13 adults. This attribute could put the Dost in direct competition to the Tata Winger, a passenger van with a similar passenger carrying capacity. Here are a couple of renders EarthFusion has come up with.
EarthFusion has come up with renders of both the normal roof and the high roof versions of the Dost. Given that the Tata Winger is available with similar roof styles, the Dost passenger van could also be made available with two roof options. The Dost passenger van is expected to feature the same 1.5 Liter-3 cylinder turbo diesel engine that does duty on the load carrying version of the Dost. The passenger van variant is expected to be built at Ashok Leyland’s upcoming factory on the outskirts of Chennai. The new factory is expected to play host to the Dost derivatives. Also on the anvil is an all-electric variant of the Dost.
With the Dost passenger van being readied up for a launch before October 2013, we wonder where Ashok Leyland will position the Stile MPV. The Dost passenger van could be targeted at semi urban and rural markets as a people mover while the Stile could do duty in the bigger cities as a relatively upmarket MPV. The price of the Dost passenger van remains unknown at this point in time. However, expect the van to be priced a lakh or two higher than the load carrying variant. Given is people mover ambitions, the Dost passenger van is also expected to come with a bunch of additional features that aren’t found on the pick up truck.
