Ashok Leyland launches limited “anniversary” edition of the Dost 1.25 ton pick up truck in India
It’s been a year since Ashok Leyland first entered the small pick up truck segment of the Indian commercial vehicle market with the Dost 1.25 ton pick up truck. The Dost has been a big success for Ashok Leyland right from the word go as the mini pick up truck, which is positioned uniquely in the pick up market has managed to clock in some impressive numbers by offering much more than its rival does, in terms of performance as well as creature comforts. The latter is something that most mini pick up truck manufacturers usually don’t emphasize on but Ashok Leyland did consider the driver comfort as paramount and this has worked very well for the brand.

The 2012 Ashok Leyland Dost pick up truck has managed to clock over 20,000 units in sales over the past one year. To celebrate the occasion of the Dost’s first anniversary, Ashok Leyland has launched a limited edition variant of the Dost. The Dost will be immediately available for sale across the 45 touch points Ashok Leyland currently has for the Dost, across the country. Going forward, Ashok Leyland plans to double the number of touch points to 90. The limited edition variant of the Dost comes with the following new features: bull bar on the front bumper, fuel tank guards, LED lights and arm rests.
The Limited Edition version of the Dost is priced at INR 4.78 lakhs, ex-showroom Chennai. The limited edition Dost will be on sale until Diwali. The pick up truck features a 1.5 Liter BS4 compliant turbo diesel engine that has an inline, three cylinder layout. This engine produces a peak power of 55 Bhp and a peak torque of 150 Nm. The Dost is available in two variants, and the higher variant comes with air conditioning and a power steering as standard.
These creature comforts make the Dost more comfortable for the driver and co-passenger. The Dost’s seat also folds into a bed, allowing the driver to catch a nap or two in between a long working day. The Dost’s main competition comes from Tata Motors’s Super Ace, which is a bigger version of the Tata Ace mini pick up truck. The Super Ace features a 1.4 Liter, four cylinder turbo diesel engine good for 70 Bhp-140 Nm. The Super Ace comes with a payload of 1 ton and features creature comforts like power steering and air conditioning.
