First on ICB: Ashok Leyland Dost Mini Pick Up Truck gets a facelift for 2013
The 2013 Ashok Leyland Dost 1.25 ton mini pick up truck has gotten itself a slew of upgrades for the 2013 model year, and this facelift comes in less than two years of the Dost’s launch in India, a feat of sorts in the commercial vehicle segment, where utility vehicles usually go unchanged for years together. Last year, Ashok Leyland released a Anniversary Edition of the Dostto celebrate the mini pick up truck’s 1 year-20,000 unit sales and thus, this facelift represents the second upgrade for the Dost in under 2 years of its launch in the Indian light commercial vehicle market.
Coming to the 2013 Dost facelift, the 1.25 ton mini pick up truck gets additional power and torque. The 1.5 Liter-3 cylinder common rail turbo diesel engine now generated 58 Bhp of peak power(up from 55 Bhp) and 157.5 Nm of peak torque(up from 150 Nm). the Dost retains the 5 speed manual gearbox as standard and this gearbox comes with an overdrive function for minimized fuel consumption during highway cruising. The Dost can reach a maximum speed of 90 Kph and the mini pick up truck gets ELR seat belts, LSPV brakes(front-disc and rear-drum), front impact absorption bar and tubeless tyres as standard.
The Dost is available in three variants, LE, LS and LX. The LE and LS variants now get two new features in the form of the windshield washer and rear fender. All three variants of the Dost can be ordered in a new Pista Green color. So, that’s pretty much what’s new on the 2013 Dost. The top spec Dost LX gets a power steering and air conditioning. The Dost is one of the few pick up trucks in India that focus on the driver comfort in a big way. The driver of the Dost can fold the seats of the Dost into a bed for a short nap during breaks.
Also, the wide cabin is aimed at improving both space as well as comfort for the driver and co-passenger. Ashok Leyland has managed to sell over 30,000 Dosts across India in under 18 months of the mini pick up truck’s launch. The Dost comes with a 12 month/50,000 Km warranty as standard, which can be extended by another 18 months/150,000 Kms. The Ashok Leyland Dost is priced at well under INR 5 lakhs, ex-showroom all India. The Dost will get a CNG powered option in the next few months aimed at buyers from the bigger Indian cities where CNG dispensing stations are dime a dozen.
