2012 Honda CBR150R to be launched next month; Expected price is INR 1,15,000!
Gunning straight for the Yamaha R15 Version 2.0, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India, the Japanese brand’s Indian two wheeler division, will launch the CBR150R in the second week of March, 2012. The 2012 Honda CBR150R is expected to be priced at INR 1,15,000, which while being higher than the Yamaha R15, is just a couple of thousands cheaper than the recently launched KTM Duke 200 street fighter motorcycle. The CBR150R is essentially a downsized variant of the flagship Honda CBR250R, which the Japanese brand has been selling in India for close to a year now.
Coming in March 2012, the launch of the Honda CBR150R will mark one year of Honda selling the CBR250R in the Indian market. The Honda CBR150R features a 150cc, DOHC, four valve, single cylinder engine. The 150cc fuel injected engine is a downsized unit of the 250cc engine that the CBR250R features. The CBR150R produces a peak power of 18 PS and a peak torque of 12.6 Nm. The CBR150R’s four stroke engine is mated to a six speed manual transmission. Looks wise, there is little to distinguish the CBR1509R from the bigger engined CBR250R. A major difference is the exhaust muffler, which is smaller on the CBR150R.
Coming to the strengths of the CBR150R, the motorcycle offers a more relaxed riding position as opposed to the radical riding position that the sporty Yamaha R15 offers. While the Yamaha R15 Version 2.0 is track inclined, the CBR150R will be more at home on long tours. Also, the CBR150R will offer a more usable pillion seat, and this is one major factor that could drive prospective Yamaha R15 version 2.0 buyers discouraged by the super high pillion seat towards the CBR150R. Honda aims to sell an optimistic 3,500 units of the CBR150R every month.
