TVS Motor Company has lined up three all-new products on its launchpad for the year 2013. The three new products that will be launched this year will include two automatic scooters and one motorcycle. The two new scooter launches from TVS for 2013 will comprise of India’s First Hybrid Automatic Scooter, the Qube Hybrid and a yet to be named 125 cc Automatic scooter. The sole new motorcycle launch from the TVS stable for 2013 will be the new Victor.
TVS will position the new Victor in the 100-110 cc space of the Indian motorcycle market, which constitutes a massive 65 % of the motorcycle market in terms of volume. The 100-110 cc space has seen a lot of new products being added to the mix in recent times, with the likes of Bajaj with the Discover 100T, Honda with the Dream Yuga and Suzuki Hayate all entering the segment in the past few months.
TVS will be hoping to grab itself a piece of the 100-110 cc segment’s pie with its new Victor. The new Victor is likely to use a re-worked version of the Star City’s 109.7 cc, Four-Stroke engine, currently outputting 8.2 PS of Power @ 7500 Rpm and 8.1 Nm of Torque @ 5500 Rpm in the Star City. The new Victor’s re-worked heart will most likely be paired with the same constant mesh 4-Speed Gearbox as in the Star City.
The Qube could re-define the Indian Automatic Scooter segment with its cutting edge styling and futuristic technology. The Scooter will use a 100 cc Four Stroke engine paired with an Electric Motor. The Electric Motor will nestle in the scooter’s wheel hub and draw power for propulsion from Lithium-Ion Batteries. However, the scooter will be test launched in 2013 mainly to gauge customer response. A decision on an all India launch of the Qube Hybrid will be taken after the feedback received from the test launch.
The Qube Hybrid will be capable of being ridden in three different riding modes namely: Electric, Hybrid Economy and Hybrid Power. To further enhance its Fuel-Efficiency, TVS will equip the Qube Hybrid with addtional fuel-saving measures such as Brake Energy Recuperation and a Start-Stop system. With all this techno-wizardry, TVS is hoping to achieve a mileage of 70 Kmpl in the Indian Test Cycle.
The third new product from the TVS stable this year, is the one for which there is least clarity about as of now. It is expected to be a 125 cc Automatic Scooter that will be postioned to take on the likes of Suzuki’s Access and Swish, Mahindra’s Duro DZ and Rodeo RZ and the upcoming 125 cc scooters from Honda and Yamaha. The Scooter could feature Telescopic Front Forks, An External fuel filler, Front Disc brake and Alloy Wheels.
With these three new product launches TVS will be hoping to reclaim the ground that it has lost to Bajaj and Honda in recent months and will be looking to seriously challenge Honda and Bajaj for the Number two spot in the Indian 2-Wheeler market. With unique and exciting products such as the Qube Hybrid, we can only hope that the Indian 2-wheeler buyer will see enough of a value proposition in TVS’s upcoming new products.
