Incidentally, Bajaj Auto carries a stake of nearly 40% in the Austrian sportsbike maker, KTM. Bajaj also manufactures the KTM Duke 125, which is sold in export markets across the world. The KTM Duke 200, also will be manufactured in India, at Bajaj’s Chakan plant. The Duke 200 will feature a high amount of localization with many parts of the motorcycle made in India, giving Bajaj Auto cost competencies to price the Duke 200 very competitively. The KTM Duke 200 is expected to be priced between 1.25-1.31 Lakhs, with a launch anticipated on 3rd January, 2012.

The KTM Duke 200 is a hotly anticipated motorcycle in the Indian premium sports motorcycle segment as the Duke comes with many features that are segment firsts. Going forward, KTM will bring many motorcycles to the Indian market. The next big KTM product to be launched in India after the Duke 200 will be the 350cc variant of the Duke called the Duke 350. This motorcycle is expected to arrive into India in early 2013.

KTM is also developing a 350cc sportsbike that it will target at both developing as well as emerging motorcycle markets in India and South East Asia. This 350cc single cylinder engined sportsbike will debut in 2014. Notably, Bajaj Auto’s all new Pulsar range will use plenty of technology derived from KTM, to position the Pulsar range of motorcycles as a significant step up from competing motorcycles in India.
